Global Food Pantry is FLIK’s new monthly series that explores pantry staples, flavors, and culinary traditions from around the world. Instead of spotlighting one dish, we highlight everyday ingredients and pair them with chef-tested recipes and practical shopping tips so you can bring these global pantry ideas into your kitchen.

This month: Foods of Japan. The health benefits of Japanese cuisine come from meals built around whole, minimally processed ingredients like fish, soy foods (tofu, edamame, miso), sesame, vegetables, seaweed, and other fermented staples. These foods deliver lean protein and omega-3s for heart and brain health, plus probiotics from fermentation to support digestion—all in a naturally balanced, nutrient-dense approach that emphasizes variety and mindful portions. Don’t forget to check this month’s recipe packet  for ways to bring Foods of Japan into your home kitchen.

Savvy Shopper. Our new Savvy Shopper is a short, practical guide that helps you shop for and store pantry staples like a pro. Explore the Savvy Shopper guide.
