Global Food Pantry is FLIK’s new monthly series that explores pantry staples, flavors, and culinary traditions from around the world. Instead of spotlighting one dish, we highlight everyday ingredients and pair them with chef-tested recipes and practical shopping tips so you can bring these global pantry ideas into your kitchen.

This month: Foods of NigeriaThe health benefits of traditional Nigerian cuisine come from nutrient-rich staples like yams, cassava, rice, beans, leafy greens, fish, and a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables that naturally support balanced eating. Foods such as moi moi (steamed bean pudding), akara (bean fritters), and bean-based stews provide plant-based protein and fiber to support digestive health and sustained energy. Yams and rice serve as important sources of carbohydrates, while leafy vegetables like ugu (fluted pumpkin leaves) and spinach deliver essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Ingredients such as ginger, peppers, and garlic add flavor along with anti-inflammatory benefits, and fish provides lean protein and heart-healthy omega-3 fats. Together, these traditional foods contribute to overall wellness and balanced nutrition. Don’t forget to check this month’s recipe packet for ways to bring foods of Nigeria into your home kitchen.

Savvy Shopper. Our new Savvy Shopper is a short, practical guide that helps you shop for and store pantry staples like a pro. Explore the Savvy Shopper guide.
